The Possums’ Case – Court Diary June 2019
Day 9: Tuesday June 18, 2019
The hearing of evidence in our case concluded today. Ms Skvortsova completed cross examination of Professor Baker, VicForests’ final witness and the last witness in the case. VicForests did not seek to re-examine Prof. Baker and Court adjourned just after 3:00pm, a little earlier than usual.
Tomorrow begins the final phase of the hearing which will take a novel format, short (1.5 hours each) verbal summaries of the parties’ cases. This will be followed by statements on the main issues in the case, with the parties alternating, so that Her Honour hears the points of agreement and disagreement, issue by issue. The list of points for discussion has been compiled by the parties and was amended by Her Honour. We still expect to be finished by Thursday. Written closing submissions will be made at a later date.
The Court is maintaining a dedicated website for the case. Significant documents will be added as the case proceeds.

Though the giving of evidence is now finished the final summaries and presentations should be very interesting and you are welcome to join us as observers in Court. We will be glad to see you – Level 8 Court B. Proceedings begin at 10:15am; allow time to get through security. The court building is next to Flagstaff Station.

WONDERFUL NEWS! For our final case fundraising effort a generous supporter has offered to double donations received (to a set limit) so every dollar you give now will count as two dollars to our case. This will help us to settle the expenses of presenting our powerful expert evidence (money well spent!) and to cover the last few Court (essential transcripts) and legal costs. Thanks to all those who have already helped us to get this far – we couldn’t have done it without you! You can still support this historic case by donating here: https://chuffed.org/project/possums-case
Thanks again for your interest and the many messages of support.
